Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary

Hawthorn’s first Festival Day of the year began with Mass followed by a school-wide Rosary.  Field Day games followed, as well as a poetry, song and art competition.  

For the first time, students competed as a member of one of Hawthorn’s four houses (Trinity House, Bedford House, St. James House and the Mayflower House).  The winner of this year’s Festival Day was…the St. James House!

The following prizes were awarded: 

In the Kindergarten & 1st Grade competition, the best poetry recitation was awarded to Mimi McGovern in Mrs. Dooley’s class.  Mrs. Macalintal’s Kindergarten class was awarded the Best Dressed award and Ms. Shimansky’s 1st Grade class was awarded best song for their performance of Eerie Canal.  

The best poetry recitations by a 2nd - 4th grade student, were awarded to Adaya Espana (Grade 3) and Rocco Truffini (Grade 4).  The best poetry recitations by a 5th-8th grade student, were awarded to Amelia Oliver (Grade 8) and Tim Laclavik (Grade 8).  

The best class songs were awarded to the Grade 4 Boys for their performance of “Home on the Range” and the Grade 7-8 Boys for their theatrical performance of “Rattlin’ Bog”.  The best dressed award was given to the Middle School girls.  

For the art competition, the following individuals were recognized: John Andino, Jacob Macalintal, Kiara Sullivan, and Matthew Croke.
