Hockey-Writing Camp
The first two weeks of Hawthorn’s Daring Camp for Girls and Dangerous Camp for Boys are nearly filled to capacity! This summer, we are offering a third week of camp, called Wrist Shots and Writing. Led by Hawthorn faculty Peter Simonetti, this camp is designed for Boys Ages 7-12, and will take place from 7/21 - 7/25, 9am - Noon. Students will learn the fundamentals of the great game of hockey and keep their mind sharp with practice in writing and the basics of grammar and spelling. To learn more, visit our website here.

Moms' gathering (2025 - June)
Join other Hawthorn Moms for conversation in the Living Room after drop-off. This month’s talk will be presented by Maddy Pidel on the topic of using our leisure time well. These meetups are a great opportunity to reflect on a topic of interest and build connections with fellow moms at Hawthorn.

First Holy Communion at St. Patricks
In collaboration with Fr. Graebe and St. Patrick's parish, the second graders of The Hawthorn School have been invited to receive the Sacrament of First Communion at the 10:30am Sunday mass of St. Patrick’s Church. We invite the entire school community to join us in attending this special Sunday mass. 1st grade and 2nd grade families have also been invited to a reception following mass at the Hawthorn School. Musical Assembly
The Musical Assembly, featuring Hawthorn pianists, violinists, trumpeters, and vocalists, will take place on Friday, May 30th at 1:45pm. This program will feature the hard work of Hawthorn students at various grade levels, while providing a survey of classical music from Baroque through Contemporary periods. Parents of student performers are invited to join us for this assembly. To attend, RSVP to Alexis Walls (awalls@thehawthornschool.com). All student performers should reserve Tuesday, May 27th, 2:45pm - 3:45pm for a dress rehearsal in preparation for this event.

Living an Integrated Life
Join Hawthorn faculty, Mark Edelson, who will discuss his upcoming book, Living An Integrated Life. His book explores ways of incorporating our faith into our work and finances. In addition to his extensive work as an educator, Mr. Edelson has worked as an actuarial analyst for Deloitte Consulting and independently as a financial coach and financial education instructor. Admissions Open House
Hawthorn’s final Open House of the 2024-25 Academic Year will take place on Wednesday, May 28th. Once again, this Open House will take place during the school day so that visitors may experience Hawthorn first-hand. Anyone who would like to RSVP may do so here.


Deadline to Pre-Order Hawthorn’s 2024-25 Yearbook
The yearbook pre-order window is now open and will close on Friday, May 23rd. Each family will receive one complimentary copy of the yearbook. However, if you'd like to order additional copies for your family, please place your order through our website here. All yearbooks will be delivered to students on June 13th.

Kindergarten & Grade 1 Field Trip to Muscoot Farm
Students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 will visit Muscoot Farm in Katonah, NY.

Poetry Contest Announcement at the Bedford Free Library
This year, Hawthorn students in Grades 1-9 had the opportunity to submit their original poetry pieces in the 19th Annual Bedford Free Library Poetry Contest. On May 21st, all are invited to attend an Ice Cream Social at the Bedford Free Library, across the street from Hawthorn. At this exciting after-school event, poetry contest winners will be announced in several age divisions. Please plan to attend if your child’s poetry was submitted!

First Communion Meeting
Students in Grades 1 and 2 are invited to attend a First Communion Meeting led by Hawthorn faculty Pauline MacDonald and Mark Edelson. This meeting will take place right after school in Room 13. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Alexis Walls (awalls@thehawthornschool.com).

Girls in Grades 2-9 will go Rock Climbing at Movement Gym in Valhalla, NY.


Guest Speaker Event with Sohrab Ahmari
Keynote Speaker at the Bedford Historical Society
The Hawthorn School is proud to welcome Sohrab Ahmari, an Iranian-American columnist, editor, and author. His talk, entitled "Should You Think for Yourself" is inspired by his 2021 book, "The Unbroken Thread", and will explore what it means to stay true to one's conscience, referencing the work of Saint John Henry Newman. Please mark your calendar for this exciting evening lecture that will be presented at the Bedford Historical Society.







2025 Coffee with the president (April)
Hawthorn parents are invited to a presentation by President Dr. McCleary. While the discussion will be mission-specific, questions from parents are always welcome and make for wonderful conversation. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

2025 Open House (Spring)
For our upcoming Open House we will be using a new format and have moved the date from Saturday, April 12th to Tuesday April 8th, from 10am to 12pm. The Open House will therefore take place during the school day. Take a moment to consider whether you know any families who might be interested to tour Hawthorn on this day. Anyone who would like to RSVP may do so here.

2025 Parent-Teacher Conferences
An optional opportunity for parents to sign up for individual conferences with their teacher(s). A link for sign-up will be circulated towards the end of March.

Start of Spring Clubs
The Cross Country Club will be off to the races on Monday, March 31st and the Rugby Club will start rucking and mauling on Tuesday, April 1st. No, that is not an April Fool. That is for real! Both clubs will run through to the first week of June, so Cross Country will end on Monday June 2nd and Rugby on Tuesday June 3rd. The Cross Country Club will meet on grounds at the Hawthorn School and the Rugby Club will meet at the side entrance to the Boys' Wing and walk over to the Bedford Memorial Park together. Rugby Club pick up will be from the Memorial Park at 3:45pm. The Tennis Club's first serve will be on Friday, April 4th and conclude Friday, June 6th. The Tennis Club will also meet at Bedford Memorial Park, and pick up will be from the park at 3:45pm.
The Cross Country and Tennis Clubs are for Girls and Boys in 3rd Grade and above. The Rugby Club is only for Boys in 3rd Grade and above.
Also, for the first time this year we will be offering a Soccer Clubfor Girls and Boys in Grades 1 through 3!
Mr. Cotaj, who has a youth coaching license, has kindly volunteered his time to lead this Club. The Soccer Club will be held on Mondays between 2:45pm and 3:45pm. The first day will be Monday, March 31st. The Soccer Club will not be walking from Hawthorn to the Memorial Park together. The road is too busy and the sidewalk too narrow to make the walk safe for a large group of young children. Please make arrangements to transport your child from the school to the Park for a 2:45pm practice. Pick up and drop off will be at the Memorial Park.
Please sign up by filling out an RSVP form at the Clubs Page on our website. Please note that you need to register for these clubsin order for the school to plan accordingly. Once registered, please encourage your child to complete the season where possible.


Showing Love to Seniors
On March 28th, the Hawthorn Parents' Guild is organizing a service trip to visit the senior citizens of Waterview Hills in Purdys, NY. If you are interested in performing a musical selection, reciting a poem, working on an art project, or simply tagging along to visit with the elderly, please RSVP to hawthornparentsguild@gmail.com. This event is a wonderful opportunity for our schoolchildren to show love and respect in a meaningful way during the season of Lent. For more information, see the flyer below.

Last Day of Chess Club
Due to its popularity, Chess Club is running for an additional two weeks. The students met on 3/18 and will meet one more time on 3/25, the Feast of the Annunciation. Thank you to Mr. Edelson for making Chess Club such an engaging and enriching opportunity for Hawthorn's students!

2025 Feast of the Annunciation - Festival Day
This school day will begin with Holy Mass, followed by outdoor races and activities, and ending with the Competition of the Bard, where students recite poetry and present songs that they’ve worked on with their classes. Following tradition, pizza and ice cream will be served to all. No need to pack lunch for your child on this day, and your student should come dressed in full, standard uniform.

Hawthorn Rosary Group
After morning drop-off, Hawthorn parents are invited to gather at St. Patrick's Church to pray the Rosary prior to daily mass. This is a weekly opportunity to gather in prayer for the intentions of the school community, and all are welcome.
