Players practice foundational skills such as dribbling, passing, and teamwork through engaging drills and friendly games. The Soccer Club is coached by Mr. Cotaj (Hawthorn dad) and Ms. Shimansky (Hawthorn faculty), who bring structure and fun to every session. Mr. Cotaj has a youth coaching license and guides students to build confidence and a love for the game. Ms. Shimansky is an elite soccer player who has enjoyed soccer leisurely and professionally for 20 years, competing in the CONCACAF league in Central America and the Caribbean, as well as in Europe. She was trained by the Seacoast United Soccer Club, Brighton and Hove Albion, and the US Virgin Islands National Team. All students who join this club are required to bring the following items to weekly practice: cleats, shin guards, and their own soccer ball.

Pass the pigskin! Boys in Grades 3 and above are invited to join us for Monday Night Afternoon Football! A sport that emphasizes teamwork and effort, football creates camaraderie through the difficulty of simply running a play correctly. At Bedford Memorial Park, we’ll run through technique, strategy, plays, and then put it all together during a scrimmage. Mr. Epps was Team Captain and an All-District Tight End, Defensive End, and Offensive Tackle in High School. He looks forward to bringing out the coach’s hat and whistle this time around!

By engaging in this classic art form, young dancers will practice technical movement skills that enhance musicality, balance, strength, flexibility, and coordination - promoting poise and confidence in all areas of life. Beginners are welcome. Participants must have their own dance attire (to be specified) and commit to weekly attendance showing cooperation and positive commitment, as they will work toward choreography for the seasonal arts showcase. Classical Ballet Club is led by Mrs. Macalintal, who holds a BA in Dance and Arts in Education from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and an MA in Dance Education from NYU Steinhardt, as well as NYS Teacher Certification in Dance PreK-12. During her early career she implemented dance programs in NYC public schools, choreographed theatrical productions, and performed modern and tap with several dance companies. She enjoys bringing the beauty and joy of Ballet to Hawthorn!

 Participants play touch rugby to start, but are then introduced to contact rugby, focusing on how to tackle safely to avoid injuries.  The Rugby Club is led by Mr. Hickman who played at the first-team level throughout high school, and also for Trinity Hall, Cambridge.  He also coached for four years at the Old Greenwich and Riverside Community Center rugby programs, culminating in a two-match tour to Ireland.

Students of all abilities are welcome - the only requirement is to love and appreciate the beauty and usefulness of mathematics. This Club is led by Mr. Edelson (Hawthorn faculty), who worked with Deloitte as an actuarial analyst, and independently as an investment advisor and financial education instructor. He graduated summa cum laude from Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he studied in the Great Books Honors Program, while majoring in mathematics with a minor in finance. He was awarded the Mathematics Award and the Fr. Dan Egan Award as Outstanding Senior in the Bachelor of Science Program.

In this timeless Ballroom dancing enrichment program, tradition, athletic movement, and classic polish come together. This club provides a structured, inspiring space for boys and girls to learn partnership, musicality, and mutual respect. Led by Hawthorn parent Anastasiya Levine, who brings a lifelong passion and extensive background in competitive Ballroom and Latin dancing, she is dedicated to sharing the art, discipline, and joy of dance with the next generation. Students learn universal principles of posture, balance, frame, and rhythm applied across styles, with a primary focus on mastering the elegance of the Waltz; Mutual Respect & Courtesy: Practical lessons in partnership, polite invitations, clear communication, and chivalry; Social Confidence: Developing physical poise, strong presentation, and effortless self-assurance ; Co-Ed Teamwork: A positive, comfortable environment designed to build healthy peer dynamics. Students participating in this Club should plan to wear their standard school uniform with smooth-soled shoes.

Calling creative Hawthorn students who are interested in having fun as they learn to role-play and collaborate with their classmates. Students will sing, act, dance, and practice their communication and presentation skills. The culminating project will be a performance of the Christmas pageant for Hawthorn families. The club will be led by Mrs. Hoblin (Hawthorn faculty), who enjoys providing opportunities for students to express their unique talents. No prior theater experience required.

This club invites Hawthorn students to learn the art of beadwork and jewelry-making with the goal of making one’s own Rosary. Students will begin with basic beading skills and then advance to more complex projects. This club is led by Ms. Sattler (Hawthorn faculty), who has a devotion to the Rosary and enjoys sharing her love of this relaxing and enjoyable craft.

Alternating weeks 

We invite students in Grades 2-8 to join Hawthorn’s Chorus Club led by Maks Adach, Organist & Master of Choristers at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich, Connecticut. Mr. Adach previously served as Assistant Organist and Associate for Musical Studies at Saint Thomas Church and Choir School. He began his musical training as a chorister at the London Oratory and continued at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music in London. He spent a year at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where he held the organ scholarship at the Old Royal Naval College in London. Upon leaving Trinity, Maks studied at Oxford to pursue a master’s degree in musicology and serve as Director of Chapel Music. This fall, Mr. Adach will be joining Hawthorn’s faculty to teach General Music to Hawthorn’s boys, and to direct Hawthorn’s Chorus Club.
