Hawthorn Family Mass
On Sunday, March 15th, more than 15 Hawthorn families gathered for mass at St. Patrick’s parish. These monthly masses have been a wonderful opportunity to share faith and fellowship.
Also last week, Hawthorn students in Grades 1-7 enjoyed a Chapel Talk by Fr. Graebe, who spoke about how all five of our senses help us to connect with God. The Church engages our physical nature, since humans (unlike angels) are composed of both body and soul.
Through physical actions, such as kneeling, genuflecting, and folding our hands in prayer, we express our devotion. We smell the incense, we listen to the sound of Church Bells, the Gospel, and the Word of God, and we taste by receiving Jesus in the Eucharist. When we look through the Church’s stained glass windows, we use our eyes to see how God shines through everything, and brings the ordinary circumstances of our life into color.
During this chapel talk, Fr. Graebe took students up in the choir loft to see the organ, an instrument that has pipes and uses air to create sound, similar to how we use our breath to speak and sing.
