On Tuesday November 1st the Hawthorn school celebrated the Feast of All Saints. We observed the Holy Day by attending mass as a school at St. Patrick's church.

Afterwards, Dr. McCleary addressed the students on the topic of what is a saint, highlighting that saints are those who saw that God has given them every good gift, and strove to give themselves completely to God in return. We celebrate the feast of "All Saints" because there are so many people in Heaven to whom the Church does not give one particular day to celebrate. Many of us are named after saints, and that reminds us that saints are part of our heritage. We too are called to be saints, that is, to give back to God our best efforts in all that we do, in hopes to join Him in eternal life.

In true Hawthorn fashion, we observed the day with athletic contests, including a relay race, egg toss, and tug-of-war, as well as a Poet Laureate and Song Contest. Students enjoyed a pizza lunch and ice cream to end the day. The Chorus Club performed the hymn, "For All the Saints."
