Students in grades K-2 took a trip to the newly built Bedford Fire Department down the road from our school. There, students started the morning learning about fire safety and when one would need to call 911.  They got to meet several of the firefighters who gave them a tour of the building, including the control center where emergency calls are received, and the gear room where each firefighter has a locker for all their protective clothing and equipment.  The fire station had at least 8 different vehicles, and students got to see the inside of the fire engine and the ambulance.  Lastly, students participated in a mock escape from a smoky room and practiced how to escape in the event of a fire.
